All Ephedra is not the Same, Beware of Fake Ephedra
April 21, 2008 |
Metabadrine is the only real ephedra left in April 2008. Supplies are low. When it sells out there will be no more made.
There is a difference between ephedrine alkaloids and synthetic ephedrine marketed as ephedra diet pill products.
This month has seen a rise in the new ephedra, Ephedra viridis, is not the same as ephedra sinica. This product is being marketed as the only legal ephedra sold in the U.S. Well, that’s because its worthless!
Ephedrine is only one of the naturally occurring alkaloids present in Ephedra extracts. Other alkaloids include pseudoephedrine (which is less potent than ephedrine) and alkaloids that slow the absorption of ephedrine from the digestive tract and/or counteract the stimulant effects of the ephedrine in the extracts. Obesity, defined as Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m2 , is a widespread problem in the U.S., the cause of many diseases and a major public health concern. One-third of Americans, up from 25 percent as recently as 1980, are obese, according to statistics gathered by the National Institute of Health.
This dramatic rise in such as short time paints in alarming picture of the rapidly mounting threat obesity poses to our national health. Removing ephedra diet pills from the market will only raise the rates.
Obesity increases the risk of severe chronic illnesses, most notably heart disease, cancer and diabetes, and is associated with reduced life span. Obesity kills over 300,000 U.S. citizens each year. Nearly six percent of all the total health care costs in this country, more than fifty billion dollars, is attributable to obesity. Clearly, ephedra products would be a part of any reasonable plan to combat the rise in obesity, but politicians pander to special drug company interests.
