As you can see, the supplements facts were probably written by Bill Clinton of “it depends on the definition of is” fame, there are no ephedra alkaloids in this over priced product. The product has ephedra leaves. No ephedra alkaloids. But the high price makes you think you are getting ephedra alkaloids.

Natural synephrine comes from the plant Citrus aurantium or “bitter orange” and may be found in dried fruit peels traditionally used in Chinese medicine. It is a sympathomimetic amine that is structurally similar to ephedra (Fig. 1) and has also been shown to cause vasoconstriction. Despite the lack of data on safety and efficacy, synephrine is touted by its promoters as a “safe” alternative to ephedra and is often combined with caffeine, as in the supplement Xenadrine-EFX (Cytodyne Xenadrine EFX; http://www.global-nutrition- inc.com/cy-023. html). Several researchers have called for a ban of this substance from the market because of a dangerous side effect profile that is thought to approximate that of ephedra.2 We report a case of left middle cerebral artery vasopasm and stroke in a young healthy patient in the setting of XenadrineEFX use.

Here is the way that you know the ephedra you are buying is fake: the ingredients list includes “ephedra leaves”. Brands you use to trust have now changed to ephedra leaves. I can’t believe that a company that spent years and millions of dollars building brand equity would do that to loyal customers, but I hear the stories everysay.

But there is one brand that has remained, but not for long. Metabadrine still has the ephedra alkaloids. When the limited sypply is gone there will be no more. Metabadrine maker Elation Therapy, Inc. will not rip you off with fake ephedra leaves or any ingredient that does not work.
